Welcome to the Top 10 Boxscore of the Week, a new weekly segment on the Boxscore Geeks where we break down our favorite boxscores of the week. While we do use statistical criteria to guide our choices, this list is subjective. With that said, here's our list!
Honorable Mention: Kobe Bryant - Nov. 8th
- 19 Field Goal Attempts
- 6 Free Throw Attempts
- 18 Points, 41.6% True Shooting
- 2 Rebounds (0 Offensive)
- 3 Assists
- 2 Personal Fouls
- 1 Steal
- 1 Turnover
- 0 Blocks
Kobe is shooting horrendously this season. This game dropped his season's True Shooting to 44.4%. Kobe shares the fun honor of being as efficient as the 1960's Minneapolis Lakers. Cool note, they had the worst True Shooting in the NBA that season. The question we have to ask is: how bad Kobe's shooting can get this season?
10. Brandon Knight - Nov. 2nd
- 23 Field Goal Attempts
- 3 Free Throw Attempts
- 12 Points, 24.7% True Shooting
- 7 Rebounds (1 Offensive)
- 8 Assists
- 0 Personal Fouls
- 2 Steal
- 1 Turnover
- 0 Blocks
Obviously we like both good and bad boxscores. Brandon Knight wasn't quite the worst shooter last week, but with 23 attempts, this abysmal shooting effort gets him on our list. The rest of his game was quite solid, but nowhere near close enough to overcome his horrendous shooting.
9. Brandon Knight - Nov. 8th
- 17 Field Goal Attempts
- 2 Free Throw Attempts
- 14 Points, 39.1% True Shooting
- 4 Rebounds (0 Offensive)
- 1 Assists
- 2 Personal Fouls
- 0 Steal
- 8 Turnover
- 1 Blocks
Brandon Knight is our first player to make the list twice! An auspicious honor. This time, it's for his turnovers. With seven, Brandon Knight is one of our weakest ballhandlers of the week. Unlike some other candidates (e.g. Russell Westbrook), Knight had nothing else in the tank offensively to go along with his turnovers. One assist and another horrible shooting night make Brandon Knight our best-worst stat-line TWICE this week.
8. Russell Westbrook - Nov. 2nd
- 10 Field Goal Attempts
- 5 Free Throw Attempts
- 25 Points, 100.0% True Shooting
- 8 Rebounds (2 Offensive)
- 11 Assists
- 5 Personal Fouls
- 2 Steal
- 7 Turnover
- 0 Blocks
Brian has affectionately named a type of stat line after Russell Westbrook. A "Russell Westbrook" boxscore is one that has everything -- all the good stats and all the bad ones. Westbrook shot lights out, passed the ball, and grabbed a ton of boards. He also fouled a ton and turned the ball over a lot. That said, the good far outweighed the bad, and Westbrook added another great game to his awesome start.
7. Stanley Johnson - Nov. 8th
- 4 Field Goal Attempts
- 2 Free Throw Attempts
- 3 Points, 30.3% True Shooting
- 0 Rebounds (0 Offensive)
- 0 Assists
- 0 Personal Fouls
- 0 Steal
- 1 Turnover
- 0 Blocks
Stanley Johnson makes this list for being the ultimate fantasy dud. Fantasy sports don't really penalize much, except turnovers. As a result, it's hard for players to really suck if they're on the floor. Stanley Johnson in twenty minutes managed to put up a Fantasy Score (by most scoring methods) of 2.0. That's beyond terrible; that's list making!
6. Rajon Rondo - Nov. 7th
- 20 Field Goal Attempts
- 0 Free Throw Attempts
- 14 Points, 35.0% True Shooting
- 12 Rebounds (2 Offensive)
- 15 Assists
- 3 Personal Fouls
- 4 Steal
- 3 Turnover
- 0 Blocks
An incredible game by Rondo that reminds us that he's great at passing and defense. With a great 5-1 assist to turnover ratio and an absurd 12 boards, Rondo showed signs of his Celtics self. Of course, Rondo's never been a scorer, so the Kings may want to get him some better support than Rudy Gay.
5. James Harden - Nov. 7th
- 26 Field Goal Attempts
- 14 Free Throw Attempts
- 46 Points, 71.5% True Shooting
- 4 Rebounds (0 Offensive)
- 2 Assists
- 3 Personal Fouls
- 1 Steal
- 7 Turnover
- 0 Blocks
If I told you the single most impressive scoring performance (factoring in attempts and efficiency) would go to James Harden, would you be surprised? Me neither. He didn't do much else this game, but if you're going to score almost half the points on your own, do you need to?
4. Dwight Howard - Nov. 7th
- 10 Field Goal Attempts
- 5 Free Throw Attempts
- 20 Points, 82.0% True Shooting
- 20 Rebounds (7 Offensive)
- 3 Assists
- 5 Personal Fouls
- 0 Steal
- 5 Turnover
- 1 Blocks
Dwight put up a great stat line to go along with Harden's shooting. I won't lie; we're suckers for the 20-20 stat line around here. That may be a spoiler...
3. Andre Drummond - Nov. 3rd
- 17 Field Goal Attempts
- 2 Free Throw Attempts
- 25 Points, 70.0% True Shooting
- 29 Rebounds (11 Offensive)
- 0 Assists
- 3 Personal Fouls
- 3 Steal
- 4 Turnover
- 1 Blocks
How amazing in Andre Drummond? The only thing we like better than a 20-20 line is a 25-25 line!
2. Anthony Davis - Nov. 6th
- 23 Field Goal Attempts
- 14 Free Throw Attempts
- 43 Points, 71.5% True Shooting
- 10 Rebounds (2 Offensive)
- 3 Assists
- 5 Personal Fouls
- 4 Steal
- 1 Turnover
- 3 Blocks
It's fair to say Anthony Davis has struggled a bit this season. That's not to say he's been bad, but compared to his absurd last season, his first week was disappointing. He came back with a bang in this game, putting up the highest fantasy points game (so far) of the season. In fact, I had this game penciled in for the #1 spot on this list until...
1. Andre Drummond - Nov. 8th
- 19 Field Goal Attempts
- 6 Free Throw Attempts
- 29 Points, 65.7% True Shooting
- 27 Rebounds (9 Offensive)
- 0 Assists
- 3 Personal Fouls
- 2 Steal
- 1 Turnover
- 3 Blocks
A 27-27 line? Are you kidding me? Like I said, this was an at-the-buzzer required boxscore to top the list. We weren't that excited about the Pistons, but as we always say, a star gives you hope. Andre Drummond is a modern day Ben Wallace that is keeping the Pistons in contention.
That's our list! Did we miss someone? Are any players too high? Well don't worry, we'll be back next week with another one. If you see any boxscores you think deserve consideration, leave them in the comments or tweet at myself (@nerdnumbers), Patrick (@nbageek), or Brian (@boxscorebrian) with hashtag #BSGTop10. Seeya next time!
