Footnotes
This week's show we go over the NBA and discuss some of our favorite sites for viewing data.
The Basketball-Reference Season Summary page is a must-have. We talk how remarkable the Warriors, Jazz, and Hawks look right now. Also, is Memphis really this bad, or are they ready to rebound?
We hear: "watch the games!" a lot, which is a daunting task for anyone that is a human.Popcornmachine breaks down the play by play into a very nice visual if you want to see if the Lakers decided to sit their star guard in a close game and play Kobe instead!
Of course, the page I like to use is the Boxscore Geeks Players tab. It's where I go daily to see how amazing Steph Curry is. We talked some more of the top ten players on the show too. I may owe Dirk an apology!
I also like looking at the players tab in reverse. Right now the bottom of the NBA is held by Derrick Rose, Kobe Bryant, and a plethora of rookies. Sadly the Nuggets' Mudiay currently leads the charge.
The Boxscore Geeks' Players Comparison Engine is particularly useful for breaking down what a player is doing well (or poorly.) For instance, is Langston Galloway the star the Knicks need?
We made it almost all the way through the show without even going over stats.nba.com, which has a ton of new and exciting data!
In fact, the stats.nba.com data is what I used for my recent post on Usage. Tune in for a discussion on some of the nuances of being a data scientist.
Shout Outs
Brian shouts out Beau Estes and Jacolll on the NBA Reddit page. Brian says it's a bit hard to explain, but it's hilarious. Check it out.
I shout out Bjorn, who made an excellent correction of my last post in the comments.
I shout out Chris Baxter (@cbax) for his hilarious comic on "Bandwagon" fans.
