Kawhi to Toronto, Houston, possibly to Houston, and Kevin Love stays in Cleveland. All that, and more, on this week's episode of the Boxscore Geeks show!
The Kawhi drama is finally over. And holy cow did it end in dramatic fashion. Amazingly the Raptors won the Kawhi lottery and did so in spectacular fashion. Let's break down some thoughts on the trade.
We're back to talk even more offseason news. Namely, the Bulls and Spurs aren't messing around.
One of the most interesting stories of the offseason is that Kawhi Leonard reportedly no longer wants to play for the Spurs and has demanded a trade. One of the emerging narratives around this is that the Lakers have strong negotiating leverage in any potential trade talks for Leonard, but here I argue that it is in fact the Spurs who have all the leverage.
It's widely believed that the Lakers don't feel pressured to get a trade done right now for two reasons. First, LeBron James' signing has already made them relevant even if they don't get Kawhi. Secondly, they will have enough cap space in 2019 that they feel as though they can simply wait a year and sign him outright. The Spurs, on the other hand, appear to be under the gun because if they don't trade Kawhi now, he may refuse to play for them, and they will lose him in a year "for nothing" in free agency.
The fact that the NBA Finals have been a repeat going on four years now, and that the Warriors "rule" the NBA, a classic myth has emerged. The lack of parity in the NBA could ruin the sport! Of course, the NBA has never been fair. But what's more, the issue isn't superteams, or "lack of parity", it's a broken playoff system!
