1. On October 30th against the Lakers, Russell Westbrook put up the most productive game of the season (so far) with an absurd triple-double. His thirty-three points were on absurd shooting. In classic Westbrook-style, he filled out the box score with a block and a steal. His turnovers were a bit high, but sixteen assists (the second highest of the week) more than made up for it.
2. Against the Nuggets Anthony Davis put up a stat line the likes of which the modern boxscore has never seen. Fifty points, sixteen rebounds. He was one block away from a five by five! And even more amazing? The Pelicans lost. Anthony Davis may very well join the ranks of players like Kevin Garnett, Kevin Love, and Chris Paul as being utterly wasted on mediocre franchises. On the plus side, a few of those guys went on to win rings later.
3. Against the Wizards Vince Carter had an absurd scoring night. His eighteen points game on the most "Boxscore Geekish" like scoring ever - only threes and free throws! A steal and a block were just icing on the cake. The key stat for why this box score made this list though is this - Vince Carter is almost 40! He's the oldest player in the NBA. Amazing work.
4. LeBron James opened up the NBA season against the Knicks with a triple-double. At this point, I'm running out of superlatives to describe LeBron James. Another fantastic game on the best NBA career in history. Moving on.
5. We're a sucker for 20-20 games around here. With the most rebounds of the week, Andre Drummond, an old favorite, makes his way back to the list.
6. Damian Lillard makes the list with the highest "net points" (total points when adjusting for shots and free throws) What's also absurd is his high rebounds. His assist to turnover ratio leaves something to be desired, but I'd argue he shouldn't have passed at all this game.
7. James Harden makes the list with the highest assist total of the week. The Harden at point guard experiment appears to be working. His turnovers were a bit high, but with that scoring, we'll take it.
8. Anthony Davis puts up another great game that ends in a loss. If you can't win when your star gets 40+ on 60.0%+ True Shooting as well as 15+ rebounds, you're doing something wrong.
9. Wade Baldwin had the best game out of a rookie this week. Obviously, it's a far cry from some of the heroic performances our classical stars put up. That said, I'm always a fan of "filling out the box score in small ways." Wade's six rebounds, three steals, and three blocks are the type of subtle productivity we love around here.
10. We reserve the 10th for a bad performance. Boris Diaw put up the worst performance of the week. With a turnover, five fouls, and four missed shot to go along with his lone basket, everything Diaw did was bad. Put it to you this way, the only player on this list with a performance strong enough to offset this monstrosity was Westbrook!
That's our list! Did we miss someone? Are any players too high? Well don't worry, we'll be back next week with another one. If you see any box scores you think deserve consideration, leave them in the comments or tweet at myself (@nerdnumbers), Patrick (@nbageek), or Brian (@boxscorebrian) with hashtag #BSGTop10.
