Welcome to the Top 10 Boxscore of the Week, a weekly segment on the Boxscore Geeks where we break down our favorite boxscores of the week. While we do use statistical criteria to guide our choices, this list is subjective. With that said, here's our list!
DeMarcus Cousins - Jan. 26th
- 32 Minutes Played
- 21 Field Goal Attempts
- 17 Free Throw Attempts
- 17 Points, 29.8% True Shooting
- 5 Rebounds (1 Offensive)
- 4 Assists
- 2 Personal Fouls
- 0 Steals
- 2 Turnovers
- 0 Blocks
DeMarcus Cousins has put up some brilliant games this season. Spoiler alert - one of those will be later in this list. That said, DeMarcus Cousins also puts up some bad games, and he put up the worst scoring night of the week with this one. Oddly, he kept his turnovers down, which is good, I guess?
Russell Westbrook - Jan. 29th
- 37 Minutes Played
- 21 Field Goal Attempts
- 10 Free Throw Attempts
- 26 Points, 51.2% True Shooting
- 10 Rebounds (1 Offensive)
- 14 Assists
- 3 Personal Fouls
- 1 Steals
- 8 Turnovers
- 1 Blocks
I usually reserve the tail end of this list for "bad" box scores. That's not a hard and fast rule, of course. Westbrook makes the list for a "Cubic Zirconia" triple-double. He scored 26 points ... on 51.2% True Shooting. He racked up 14 assists ... with eight turnovers. He put up ten rebounds ... ok, that's impressive from a guard. Anyway, it was a slightly below average game out of a star that will be viewed as a great game.
Jrue Holiday - Jan. 30th/h2>
- 24 Minutes Played
- 19 Field Goal Attempts
- 3 Free Throw Attempts
- 26 Points, 64.0% True Shooting
- 0 Rebounds (0 Offensive)
- 7 Assists
- 3 Personal Fouls
- 0 Steals
- 3 Turnovers
- 0 Blocks
An impressive outing on limited minutes. Jrue Holiday was an excellent example of the classic coach philosophy of benching a player in foul trouble. The Pelicans pulled away with a close win, in large part thanks to a great fourth quarter from Jrue. We might wonder if he'd gotten more minutes in the first half if it would have been a bigger victory.
Danny Green - Jan. 27th
- 28 Minutes Played
- 9 Field Goal Attempts
- 0 Free Throw Attempts
- 18 Points, 100.0% True Shooting
- 6 Rebounds (1 Offensive)
- 3 Assists
- 2 Personal Fouls
- 3 Steals
- 0 Turnovers
- 1 Blocks
I love box scores like these. On the surface, it's misleading for being one of the best games of the week. That said, a guard shooting "perfect" from the field (when we adjust for three-pointers) while racking up boards is immensely valuable. Tack on the last of turnovers and fouls and Danny Green puts up a "San Antonio Special" -- an efficient game in limited minutes that results in a win.
Klay Thompson - Jan. 27th
- 32 Minutes Played
- 20 Field Goal Attempts
- 10 Free Throw Attempts
- 45 Points, 92.2% True Shooting
- 5 Rebounds (0 Offensive)
- 1 Assists
- 1 Personal Fouls
- 0 Steals
- 1 Turnovers
- 2 Blocks
The best scoring game of the week from the "best Shooting Guard" in the NBA. Klay also racked up some boards and blocks, which was just icing. In a game where Steph was having an off shooting night, the Warriors needed Klay to step up. He did, and the Warriors blew out the Mavericks by twenty.
Karl Anthony-Towns - Jan. 29th
- 36 Minutes Played
- 17 Field Goal Attempts
- 5 Free Throw Attempts
- 32 Points, 83.3% True Shooting
- 12 Rebounds (5 Offensive)
- 1 Assists
- 1 Personal Fouls
- 1 Steals
- 5 Turnovers
- 1 Blocks
The Rookie of the Year puts up an amazing game. Of course, like many great games from bigs in Minnesota, it was for naught. Towns filled all of the columns ion the box score, including making a three-pointer. Barring his five turnovers, this was a perfect game. Towns has been on a tear, so I'm expecting more of these.
DeAndre Jordan - Jan. 31st
- 36 Minutes Played
- 7 Field Goal Attempts
- 8 Free Throw Attempts
- 17 Points, 80.8% True Shooting
- 20 Rebounds (5 Offensive)
- 4 Assists
- 1 Personal Fouls
- 1 Steals
- 1 Turnovers
- 4 Blocks
DeAndre does what DeAndre does: tons of board, tons of blocks, and hyper-efficient scoring. DeAndre shot "well" from the charity stripe too, for good measure. DeAndre may not be an All-Star to the fans or coaches, but I tell you, the box score loves him.
Rajon Rondo - Jan. 25th
- 42 Minutes Played
- 7 Field Goal Attempts
- 0 Free Throw Attempts
- 7 Points, 50.0% True Shooting
- 10 Rebounds (2 Offensive)
- 20 Assists
- 4 Personal Fouls
- 0 Steals
- 3 Turnovers
- 0 Blocks
Rondo gets the exact type of double-double he should, one without scoring. Rondo gets a week-high twenty assists in a game where he played his role perfectly. I don't normally like doing two box scores from one game, but Rondo made it easy to make an exception.
DeMarcus Cousins - Jan. 25th
- 46 Minutes Played
- 30 Field Goal Attempts
- 16 Free Throw Attempts
- 56 Points, 75.6% True Shooting
- 12 Rebounds (1 Offensive)
- 4 Assists
- 6 Personal Fouls
- 1 Steals
- 7 Turnovers
- 2 Blocks
DeMarcus Cousins gets back on the list, this time for a good game. He scored and rebounded well. Of course, he also turned the ball over seven times and fouled out. It was an admirable performance in a game that the Kings just barely lost in double over time.
Draymond Green - Jan. 31st
- 37 Minutes Played
- 9 Field Goal Attempts
- 2 Free Throw Attempts
- 20 Points, 100.1% True Shooting
- 10 Rebounds (1 Offensive)
- 10 Assists
- 2 Personal Fouls
- 2 Steals
- 4 Turnovers
- 2 Blocks
Did you know Draymond does requests?
It's been almost a month since Draymond Green has put up a triple-double.
— Andrés Alvarez (@NerdNumbers) January 31, 2016
Unlike other triple-doubles on this list, this one was the real deal. Perfect scoring and a good assist to turnover ratio make this my favorite game of the week. I'd like another triple-double out of Draymond before next month if he's still doing requests.
That's our list! Did we miss someone? Are any players too high? Well don't worry, we'll be back next week with another one. If you see any boxscores you think deserve consideration, leave them in the comments or tweet at myself (@nerdnumbers), Patrick (@nbageek), or Brian (@boxscorebrian) with hashtag #BSGTop10.
